Clara’s on the River in Battle Creek closing

BATTLE CREEK, MI — A decade after the Clara’s Restaurant in downtown Lansing closed, another Clara’s in the area is about to follow suit. Clara’s on the River in downtown Battle Creek will close this week after more than three decades.

“It is with both a heavy heart and mixed emotions that we announce the closure of Clara’s on the River effective September 6, 2026,” the restaurant posted on social media this week.

The restuarant’s 1888 Michigan Central Depot location in Battle Creek, open for decades, will serve it’s last meal this Sunday. The Facebook post, signed by owner Ross Simpson, thanked loyal customers for their year’s of patronage.
