CWD found at several Michigan deer farms

LANSING, MI — Michigan wildlife officials say white-tail deer on wildlife farms in three Michigan counties have tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD), a fatal disorder that affects multiple species.

Chronic wasting disease was found in farmed deer in Calhoun and Kent counties, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) said in a press release late last week.

CWD spreads through direct animal contact and through contaminated soil, water and food, which is why deer baiting is banned in the state.
