LANSING, MI — The new year is bringing more cold air to the mid-Michigan area. The City of Lansing says it will activate its Code Blue winter weather emergency plan today. Code Blue allows local shelters to temporarily increase capacity and extend hours.
The Code Blue will remain in effect from Tuesday Dec. 30 – Tuesday Jan 6, 2026. From 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. each day.
High temperatures are only expected to reach the mid-20s the rest of this week and into the new year. Lows are night will be near the single digits, according to the Storm Tracker 6 weather forecast from media partner WLNS.
In addition, the Capital Area Transportation Authority will provide free rides to warming shelters for those in need. If you need shelter, call 211. CATA will provide free rides to warming centers.
