Bio
Mandy Michalek is a native to Scotts Michigan and spent her youth growing up on a farm owned by her family. Very early on she found a love of music and radio. As a child she spent most of her time listening to the radio with her mother and knew that someday she would be on air either as a musician or an on air personality.
Mandy’s High School offered an Education for Employment program which would give opportunities to get experience on air with a local High School radio station in Loy Norrix. Unfortunately due to losing transportation she was not able to start the program at the high school and thought she would never get the chance to work for a radio station.
Mandy then found a new love of Renaissance Faires around the time of graduation from High School. These festivals were great environments to learn improvisational acting and learning to work with other performers. She spent her youth into adulthood learning the craft of improv acting while working these festivals and still does today.
However the festivals could not replace her love of music and she then began going to Local Metal shows at smaller venues. She then became known by many local bands and fans of the local scene as a regular at these shows. Then the Miss Michigan Metal contest was put on at one of her favorite local venues and she competed and won the contest.
At the time the position of Miss Michigan Metal was very new and the owner of the contest told her the position was hers for a year and to do what she wanted with it. Mandy thought the best use of the position would be to make it a platform to promote local venues and bands. She then got out and went to every local Metal show she could and started weekly concert calendars. When it came time to give up her position to the next Miss Michigan Metal the owner of the contest hired Q106 send Terry Stevens to host the event with Mandy. Later that night after the contest was over Terry asked Mandy if she ever thought about working as an On Air Personality and she immediately jumped at the offer.
Mandy loves the work she does at the station and meeting listeners at local and large shows. You can still catch her at shows in the Local Scene in Southwest Michigan.
