JACKSON, MI — The City of Jackson is inviting residents to celebrate the completion of improvements at Workers Memorial Park during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon Friday, August 14.
The ceremony will take place at the park, 701 S. Martin Luther King Drive, and will recognize the community organizations that helped transform the park into an inviting neighborhood gathering space.
According to a press release, the completed improvements include a new playground, an upgraded basketball court and a new pavilion. The project was made possible through collaboration between the City of Jackson and several community partners.
The Kiwanis Club of Jackson supported improvements to the basketball court and rims. Advocates and Leaders for Police and Community Trust, commonly known as ALPACT, helped replace and rebuild the playground equipment. Participants in the Michigan AFL-CIO Workforce Development Institute’s Access for All program also provided hands-on assistance with construction of the pavilion.
“We are incredibly grateful to ALPACT, the Kiwanis Club of Jackson and the Michigan AFL-CIO Workforce Development Institute for their contributions to Workers Memorial Park,” Parks and Recreation Director Kelli Hoover said. “Their investment of time, resources and talent has helped create a beautiful and welcoming space where children can play, neighbors can gather and families can make lasting memories.”
Workers Memorial Park first opened in 2020.
