LANSING, MI — With July 4th falling on a Saturday this year, Emergency Department physicians at University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Lansing are prepping for a very busy holiday weekend.
While fireworks and sparklers are a beloved tradition, doctors warn that the same “booms” and bright sparks that delight crowds can also send people to emergency departments with severe burns and injuries, according to a hospital press release.
According to recent data, Michigan ranks #8 nationwide for the highest risk of backyard firework accidents.
The ED at Sparrow in downtown Lansing is the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center, according to the release.
