LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan Legislature has produced just six public acts from January 1st through July 15th, and Lansing-based MIRS News says that is the fewest ever in state history.
The only time lawmakers produced fewer than six public acts through the middle of July was in years they didn’t meet, and that has been 34 times since 1837.
In 1874, they produced seven public acts when they met in a 23-day special session, and produced eight public acts in 1898 when they met for 22 days from March 22nd until April 13th.
The average number of bills signed by the governor since Michigan became a state in 1837 from January 1st until July 15th is 196.
