LANSING, MI — The Lansing School District hopes to merge four schools and begin construction of a new elementary school. A press conference is set for Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. to discuss the transition plans.
Starting the 2023-24 school year, Reo Elementary students will transition to Attwood, and Kendon students will transition to North. Those moves are permanent. In addition, Willow students will transition and join the Riddle students while construction begin for a new Willow school.
“As we continue to evaluate our district and place student achievement at the center of all our decisions, we know that effectively using space is of great importance,” said Superintendent Ben Shuldiner.
The Lansing School District is the largest public school district in the Mid-Michigan region. The school district in announcing the changes did not indicate how many students will be affected by the transtion moves.
“With this plan, we will be able to utilize our school buildings for various reasons. By partnering with Head Start and other community partners, Reo and Kendon will continue to be vibrant buildings in the community,” said Gabrielle Lawrence, Lansing Board of Education president.
