LANSING, MI — Before the holiday season gets too crazy busy the American Red Cross is encouraging all able-bodied persons to donate blood and/or blood platelets before Christmas.
The organization says that blood donations of all types – especially type O negative – are needed now, as early holiday travel and severe winter weather in parts of the country continue to impact the blood supply.
“Blood and platelets are needed every day for those receiving treatment for cancer and leukemia, accident and burn victims and surgical patients, among others,” the organization said in a statement.
