LANSING, MI — Michigan’s Catholic High School League and the Archdiocese of Detroit are being sued by the parents of three student athletes, including one from Lansing, for discrimination.
The three athletes say they were prevented from playing sports at Orchard Lake St. Mary High School because of the the schools transfer policy. The athletes transferred from schools located in Lansing and Detroit.
Orchard Lake St. Mary’s says they stopped administering the outadted rule in May due to it being discriminatory and unlawful, but attorney Jon Marko, representing the three athletes, says the students need to be allowed to play immediately. The lawsuit says the rule targeted typically Black communities.
