LANSING, MI — The Michigan Senate has voted to repeal the state’s 2012 right to work law by a party line vote.
Majority Democrats said repealing the law was one of their top priorities and the bill now returns to the state House for final approval after they passed their own version of the repeal last week. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has said she will sign the legislation.
Senate Majority Leader Dem. Winnie Brinks of Grand Rapids says they are taking action “to empower workers by restoring the rights that they have always relied upon.”
The Michigan Chamber of Commerce and Republicans are opposed to the repeal, with the Chamber’s Wendy Block saying removing right to work will make Michigan less competitive nationally.
