Mumford & Sons are on hiatus but are not breaking up -- despite what banjo player Winston Marshall said Wednesday night.
At an after-party for the documentary Mistaken for Strangers last night, when he was asked about Mumford, Marshall told Vulture , "It was a good time [but] it's over."
After Vulture ran with the story, Billboard cleared up the mistake with the following statement: "Multiple reps for the band confirm to Billboard that Marshall's words...were meant in jest."
After spouting the fake breakup news to Vulture, Marshall ranted, "F*** the banjo. I f***ing hate the banjo," and then said he had abandoned music for the catering business.
Last September, Mumford keyboardist Ben Lovett told Rolling Stone , "There won’t be any Mumford & Sons activities for the foreseeable future. We’re going to take a considerable amount of time off and just go back to hanging out and having no commitments or pressure or anything like that.”
