White House: 972,100 in Michigan would feel minimum wage hike

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) -- Over 972-thousand Michigan residents would benefit from an increase in the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. That number comes from the White House as President Obama continues to push to increase pay for the poorest Americans.

The Obama administration says two-million people nationwide would be raised out of poverty, while twelve-million who are under the poverty line now would see their families’ incomes go up. The push comes despite a report from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office that says raising the minimum wage will result in over 500-thousand jobs lost in the U.S.
