Martha Ford inherits Detroit Lions

ALLEN PARK (WKZO) -- Martha Ford, the widow of William Clay Ford Sr., is taking over controlling interest of the Detroit Lions.  The Lions say that follows long-established succession plans after Ford Sr. died of pneumonia Sunday morning at the age of 88.

Martha and her four children will continue to be involved in the ownership of the franchise, with Bill Ford Jr. to remain the team's vice chairman. He has been in that role since 1995.

Ford Sr. purchased the Lions on November 22, 1963 for 4.5-million-dollars and owned the team until his death. Forbes now values the franchise at around 900-million-dollars.
