Road repair bill might not get done before Michigan legislature leaves for summer break

LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Potholes that are still eating up your tires and wheel alignments may not be permanently fixed anytime soon. It’s looking like state legislators may go home for the summer with no plan to repair the roads in Michigan.  There are plenty of proposals but none they can pass, and only three days left to sort out the disagreements.

The Senate is weighing a 1% hike in the sales tax or an increase in wholesale gas prices, or a hybrid of both. They would need Democratic help because too many republicans oppose tax hikes, but democrats Say either plan hits low and moderate income residents unfairly hard. The House has approved Speaker Jase Bolger’s smaller $450-million and they don’t like what the Senate is pitching.

The Senate could come up with yet another plan,  drop their own plans and approve Bolger’s bill or do nothing.  It will be the subject of weekend talks.
