WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) -- Federal investigators are opening up an investigation into possible steering problems with 500-thousand Ford vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the 2004 to 2007 model year Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Mercury Marauder could have a manifold heat shield dislodge. The shield could jam the steering shaft and make it difficult to control the car.

NHTSA investigators say they know of one instance where the shield dislodged and the driver of the vehicle lost control and flipped over.
