Former Tigers shortstop Tom Veryzer has died. The Islip, New York native was Detroit's first round pick in the 1971 Draft and was the every day shortstop for the Tigers from 1975 to 1977, when he was traded to Cleveland after Allen Trammell took over the position. During his 12-year career he also spent time with the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs. Veryzer, who was 61-years-old, is survived by his wife and three children. His funeral will be held in New York on Friday.
