On Thursday, Karen O scored her very first Oscar nomination, for "The Moon Song," a track she wrote especially for director Spike Jonze 's latest movie, Her . While the Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman is thrilled to have scored the nod in the Best Original Song category, she admits it came as a bit of surprise.

“To say this was unexpected is an understatement," she tells Rolling Stone . "It's wild because 'The Moon Song' was written and recorded in the most humble of circumstances; at my dining room table, a few paces away from the couch I read the script for Her for the first time."

The singer also paid tribute to Jonze, who she previously worked with on the score for the director’s 2009 film, Where the Wild Things Are . "The song was 10 years in the making according to Spike and testament to a beautiful friendship and creative chemistry we've shared over the years,” she notes. “Thanks Spike for making my very real phobia of ever having to be in a position to give an acceptance speech at a major award show a reality."

The Oscars ceremony will air live on ABC on March 2, with Ellen DeGeneres hosting.
