WASHINGTON D.C. (WTVB) - What’s coming in gun control measures from the White House at the start of a new year? The Obama administration is pushing two proposals to strengthen the nation's gun background check system. The proposals, from the Justice Department and the Department of Health and Human Services, are aimed at improving screening for potential gun buyers who may suffer from serious mental health problems. The proposed rules would not require congressional approval and could be implemented with a presidential signature. Efforts to strengthen firearms regulations in Congress fell flat after the school shooting massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.
