WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) -- Michigan State University is receiving nearly seven-million dollars in federal grants to study the impact of the decline of honeybees on fruit and vegetable crops.
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow says the money is coming from the Specialty Crop Research Initiative from the 2014 Farm Bill. Honeybees have been dying off in recent years, leading many in agriculture to worry about what will happen to production without the bees around for pollination.
Stabenow chairs the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee.
