Michigan Governor Rick Snyder talks about the city of Detroit being in a financial emergency state during a meeting with an invited audience

LANSING (WKZO) -- The speaker of the Michigan House wants unions in Detroit to put money toward their pension plan to avoid a sale of city-owned art, but Governor Snyder isn't endorsing it. Snyder says that such a requirement will make passing bills dealing with the city's bankruptcy more of a challenge.

Legislation is pending to pledge state money to settle the bankruptcy as part of a compromise to prevent pensioners from suing when their monthly payments are cut. That proposal would have the state pay 350-million dollars over 20 years to the pension plans.
