$8.15 minimum wage proposal introduced in Lansing

LANSING (WKZO) -- Debate over raising the minimum wage across the country continues in Washington, but a smaller increase at the state level could be here before the end of the year.

MIRS News reports that Republican state Senator Rick Jones from Grand Ledge has proposed raising the state's minimum wage from $7.40 an hour to $8.15 an hour, effective December 1st. Jones is presenting the bill as an alternative to another bill that would raise the state's minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.

Jones tells MIRS that the $10.10 an hour rate would cost restaurants in his district 250-thousand dollars if it passes. The $8.15 alternative would also include lower wages for restaurant workers that make tips.
