Advocates call for insurance coverage reform for patients during World Autism Day

LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Colors have new meanings these days: pink is for breast cancer awareness, red signifies heart attacks in women and a yellow ribbon means bring the troops home. Today displaying blue lights means you know its World Autism Awareness Day. Kaitlin Hart with Michigan’s Autism Speaks chapter says they are calling on Washington to adopt a national policy requiring coverage. She says they also want to promote understanding of the disorder.

Michigan is one of 34 states that have passed insurance reforms requiring coverage for therapy for kids on the Autism Spectrum. Home Depot is once again offering blue light bulbs with a portion of each sale going to autism research. More information is online at AutismSpeaks.org
