While the remixed version of Rush 's 2002 studio effort, Vapor Trails , won’t be available until Tuesday, you can hear a little preview of it now. The band is currently streaming every track from the upcoming release at RollingStone.com .
Frontman Geddy Lee says he wanted to get a new version of the album out to fans because he wasn’t thrilled with the quality of the audio when they first released it. "It's a terrible feeling that, due to lack of objectivity, you let an imperfect piece of work get out there," he tells the magazine. "But the songs are very strong and people really responded to the record and people were welcoming us back. The sonic defects of it got lost in the excitement of the band's return to functionality.”
In addition to being a stand-alone release, the remixed Vapor Trails will be included in a seven-disc box set titled The Studio Albums 1989-2007 , also due out October 1. That package contains 1989's Presto , 1991's Roll the Bones , 1993's Counterparts , 1996's Test for Echo and the 2004 covers EP Feedback .
