Governor Snyder signs Michigan Medicaid expansion into law

LANSING (WKZO) -- Governor Snyder has signed an expansion of Medicaid in Michigan into law.  Accompanied by medical professionals and lawmakers, Snyder signed the bill Monday morning at a ceremony at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center in Dearborn.

The measure means Michigan will join the roughly half the states in the country turning to the federal government for financial aid to an expansion Medicaid as part of the Affordable Care Act.  Over 300-thousand Michigan residents will be eligible.

The bill passed in the state Senate, but did so without a provision giving it immediate effect, so Michigan residents will have to wait until April 1st for the program to be fully implemented.
