State official say impact of federal government shutdown still minimal in Michigan

LANSING, MI (WTVB) - The impacts of the federal government shutdown on Michigan have been negligible so far but there are some dates of concern coming up. The State Office of Management and Budget is regularly updating a running list of the programs and services that could be impacted.  For now, unless you need a nursing home inspected or are trying to buy a home, it’s so far so good in Michigan.

OMB Spokesman Kurt Weiss says early projections that the WIC program and School lunches might begin running out of money next week were premature. Unemployment checks won’t be impacted, but funding for the staff at the Unemployment Office runs out on Tuesday. He also says funding for temporary assistance for needy families lapses next week, but most other programs are funded through the end of the month.
