Michigan Attorney General against parole for inmates sentenced to life as juveniles

DETROIT (WKZO) -- All Michigan prisoners who were given life sentences for crimes committed while they were juveniles are being ordered to be given a "fair, meaningful and realistic" chance for parole.  That word was handed down Tuesday from Judge John Corbett O'Meara in federal court in Detroit, and the ruling is being hailed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan.

The ACLU is pleased that the judge is calling on the state to develop a process for those inmates.  Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette had argued the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on parole could not be applied to those already serving time.
