LANSING (WKZO) -- The new political book "Double Down" alleges former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney almost threw in the towel in his native state in 2012.

Authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann write that the former Massachusetts governor asked his top advisers if it was possible to win in Michigan given his op-ed in the "New York Times" where he called for letting Detroit and the auto industry go bankrupt.

Romney won in the state, edging Rick Santorum by less than three-percent.
