DETROIT (WKZO) -- Detroit's population loss slowed last year, while surrounding communities grew.  According to Census estimates released this week, the population of Michigan's largest city remains just above 700-thousand people.

Macomb Township, one of the fastest growing suburbs in the region, added just over 12-hundred residents since 2011.  Ann Arbor, Novi, Shelby Township, Rochester Hills, Clinton Township and Troy had large gains as well.

Detroit was the only city among the nation's top 25 to lose population last year, falling 0.07-percent or approximately 47-hundred residents.
