KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Spring is technically here, and although you may still be freezing, there's comfort to be found in one thing -- Oberon Day is Monday. That's when Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo releases its new batch of Oberon beer for the summer.
Like a blockbuster movie or a new video game, some outlets will hold midnight events to celebrate the release of this year’s brew.
In Kalamazoo, Old Burdicks and Shakespeares are holding midnight events, late Sunday night. Silver Beach Pizza in St. Joseph and Crunchy’s in East Lansing will also be tapping their first kegs at Midnight.
Bell’s Eccentric Café in Kalamazoo will wait until 9 a.m. Monday to start serving the craft beer.
Larry Bell, the owner of the brewery, says Oberon isn't available year round because it's just simply designed for warm weather consumption.
He notes that they do make Oberon year round in places like Puerto Rico and Arizona. Bell's will ship around 250 thousand barrels of Oberon this year.
