LANSING (WKZO) -- Legislation to force the state to withdraw from a national education initiative will be discussed Wednesday in Lansing.
The Common Core State Standards initiative, which outlines student educational requirements, was adopted by more than 40 states. New tests have been developed based upon these standards that will let states compare their students' achievements with one another.
Michigan adopted the standards in 2010. Now, Representative Tom McMillin of Rochester says that educational standards should be determined on a local level not on a national level.
