While Paramore experienced some dark days after Josh Farro and Zac Farro left the band in 2010, frontwoman Hayley Williams says that the brothers’ departure helped inspire the band’s songwriting process for their upcoming self-titled album, due on April 9.

“Obviously our band has just been through a lot and it was kind of the perfect time to write this record,” Williams tells Billboard in a video interview. “I feel like we grew up quite a bit since from the time we put out [2009’s] Brand New Eyes to this record, this is really the story of the last three years of our lives. I’m just so proud of it.”

Williams adds that fans can expect the album to feature a fair amount of musical experimentation. “I just feel like the record has so many different sides of our band,” she reveals. “We like so many different genres, and somehow it all worked in our favor this time around. It really is hard to put a finger on what this record sounds like.”
