Keith Appling scored 16 points as the Spartans sank Northwestern, 71-61, to end the regular season. Gary Harris added 12 points for Michigan State, which is the third-seed in the Big Ten Tournament in Chicago. They will play Iowa or Northwestern in the second round on Friday.
