DETROIT (WKZO) -- Disgraced former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and crony Bobby Ferguson are being denied bond and have been ordered to go to prison while awaiting sentencing. That's after the two were found guilty on numerous corruption charges Monday. Prosecutor Michael Bullotta had argued that both should be detained, adding that Kilpatrick had ignored the court's orders in the past.
Kilpatrick's attorney, Jim Thomas, argued that Kilpatrick has no reason to flee, but Judge Nancy Edmunds said "the presumption is that detention is required in this case." Bernard Kilpatrick was found guilty of one count of subscribing a false tax return in 2005, but was not obligated to participate in the bond hearing.
