WATCH: State Sen. Rick Jones Answers Governor on Medicaid Expansion

HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The sting of defeat is being felt by Governor Snyder.

After being rebuffed by fellow Republicans in the state Senate from voting on a Medicaid expansion plan that he cut short an Israeli business trip to personally advocate for, the Chief Executive is asking for public pressure to do what he apparently couldn’t.

WHTC’s Juke Van Oss did just that on Friday morning when State Senator Rick Jones came in three days early for his monthly visit. In this video, and the Grand Ledge Republican, whose district includes Allegan County, cited a 300 million-dollar annual federal price tag after two “free” years as a legitimate cause for holding off a vote. Jones also said that alternatives should be considered, especially as more and more primary health care providers are not accepting Medicaid customers, forcing some to drive long distances to find one that does, and as for the Governor’s “take a vote, not a vacation” jibe at Jones and his fellow Republicans, the former Sheriff did cite that fact that, while lawmakers were in Lansing, the Governor was half a world away.

Also in this video, Jones also talked about his efforts to bring a new refinery to Michigan in order to deal with soaring and unstable gas prices.

Jones had switched places with House Representative Bob Genetski, who was holding a government forum in Allegan and will appear on WHTC’s “Talk of the Town” program on Monday morning.
