Shinedown’s Brent Smith: “We Don’t Make the Same Record Twice”

Brent Smith has revealed that Shinedown wrote a massive number of songs while putting together their latest album, Amaryllis .  The singer says that while the guys have enough material left over for two additional albums, fans shouldn’t expect those tracks to ever be released.

“We have two albums worth of material that we could release, but we’ll go back into the studio and we’ll start all over again,” he tells ABC News Radio.  “We’ll be in a different place and we’ll have to write from the place that we’re at at that point in time, because that’s what we’re also known for.  We don’t make the same record twice.”

Smith adds that the group hasn’t had much time to work on new material as they’re focusing all their energy on their current tour.  "I don’t work on the road as far as writing is concerned, I can’t concentrate,” he explains.  “For me, I look at it from the point of view of when it’s time to make a record, I put every single ounce of my energy into making a record.  When it’s time to tour an album, you tour the whole thing until the album cycle’s finished.”

Shinedown won’t have much time work on new tracks this summer, as they have a full touring schedule.  The band will hit the road with KISS starting July 5 at Save On Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, Canada, and then they’ll headline the Carnival of Madness Tour, which kicks off on August 13 at the Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica in Cleveland, Ohio.  Other bands set to rock the main stage on that outing include Papa Roach , Skillet , In This Moment and We as Human .
