New study says rising health care costs will slow next year

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVB) - It’s been a long time coming. Next year’s projected increase in health care costs will be substantially less than the annual increases of a decade ago.  A new report from the health research division of PricewaterhouseCoopers estimates health care costs will go up 6.5% in 2014 when the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented. PricewaterhouseCoopers projected a 7.5% rise for this year.

A major reason behind the slowdown could be that Americans who get health insurance through their employers are being more careful about going to the doctor or getting certain procedures done.  Consumers have become more aware of how much health care can cost them since they are now paying more of those costs out of their own pockets.
