The Tigers wasted a strong outing by Justin Verlander and lost 3-2 in extra innings yesterday afternoon to the Royals in Kansas City. Verlander scattered three hits while striking out eight in seven scoreless innings of work, but the Royals tied the game with a two run homer off of Jose Valverde in the ninth. Phil Coke gave up an RBI single in the 10th. Prince Fielder and Brayan Pena drove in runs for Detroit. The Tigers begin a three-game series with the Twins tomorrow night.
