Bills that make adoption easier in Michigan clear the House of Representatives

by

LANSING (WKZO) -- New proposals that its supporters say will streamline the adoption process have cleared the Michigan House and are on their way to the State Senate.

The bills would shorten the time some birth parents have to change their mind about adoption and shorten the supervision period for families adopting infants from 6 to 3 months.

Portage Rep. Margaret O’ Brien says it eases some of the burdens and hurdles that adopting parents face.

Rep. Ken Kurtz of Coldwater, who sponsored one of the bills says it really streamlines the process and “makes people participants all the way around to see the children get into the home,”

The seven bill package passed by wide margins in the house, with only a few dissenting.
