WASHINGTON, DC (WKZO) -- A controversial measure to curb government surveillance is rejected by the U.S. House.  The bi-partisan legislation was sponsored by Congressmen Justin Amash of Grand Rapids and John Conyers of Detroit.

The measure was the first legislative response to the controversy over NSA data mining that erupted after revelations from ex-NSA contractor Edward Snowden.  It was offered as an amendment to a massive defense funding bill and sought to curtail NSA surveillance of Americans' phone records.
