Expect fluctuating gas prices in Michigan for the rest of this summer

UNDATED  (WKZO) -- Gas prices dropped nearly a dollar a gallon during the month of June before bouncing back up just before the holiday. Where are they headed the rest of this summer?

GasBuddy.com’s Patrick Dehaan says the recent opening of some of the new facilities at BP’s Refinery at Whiting, Indiana may mean fewer dramatic swings, if it can guarantee fewer supply problems. He says if there are no problems with the rest of the expansion, it could mean more stability in production.

Dehaan says he expects gas to remain in the 3.50 to 3.70 range for the rest of the summer, barring any surprises.  He says the Great Lakes States are still the most volatile when it comes to gas prices and it may not take much to derali that prediction.

The Average price this morning in West Michigan is around $3.52 per gallon, including Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, St. Joe and Holland.

The average price in Lansing this morning is around $3.45 per gallon.
