Schuette questions former Michigan Supreme Court Justice's fitness to practice law

by

LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is questioning former Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway's fitness as a lawyer.

Schuette has asked the Attorney Grievance Commission to investigate Hathaway's fitness to practice law.  Hathaway retired Monday, amid an ethics scandal, and is scheduled to appear in federal court next week on felony bank fraud charges, where she's expected to plead guilty.

In a letter to the grievance commission Schuette states that he has great interest in the competency and professionalism of the courts and legal profession and that public corruption scandals have damaged the public's trust in government in Michigan.
