LANSING (WKZO) -- There is now a vacancy on the Michigan Supreme Court following Monday's retirement of Justice Diane Hathaway, who is being investigated on bank fraud charges.
Governor Snyder is being urged to accept the recommendations of the Michigan Judicial Task Force for Hathaway's replacement, and he says the list of candidates they have given him has some merit. At the same time, the governor says the speed at which Hathaway quit after the allegations came to light will prevent him from using the method the commission has put forth and will consult with current justices and his staff.
Snyder has not indicated when he may name a replacement.
