After a seven-year recording hiatus, CAKE burst back onto the scene in 2011 with Showroom of Compassion , which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart its first week out.  Frontman John McCrea says that while he hopes to release the band's next album in early 2014, fans shouldn’t count on getting any new material so quickly.

“If anything, we haven’t learned our lesson from waiting seven years because of the success of the last album,” he tells ABC News Radio. “There’s not very many really quality ‘quick and dirty’ albums.  Most albums that I really love, people spent some time, so I don’t know, I imagine we’ll have to spend some time.”

McCrea adds that fans can look forward to getting their hands on the band’s first-ever live album, which will be released in support of this year’s Record Store Day initiative on April 20.  “For Record Store Day, we are releasing a box set of vinyl…including a new album, a live album from the Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California [that] we recorded a few years back,” he reveals.  “We’ve been threatening to release [that album] for a long time and I think we’re just gonna release it on vinyl only.”
