Bitter cold temperatures and lake effect snow are in the forecast today. The west side of the state will be hardest hit. The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow warning through tonight for Allegan, Kalamazoo and several other west Michigan counties.
Homeless shelters expect to be packed this week as the coldest air in years settles across Michigan. The Lansing City Rescue Mission, Volunteers of America and Advent House all say they will be near capacity throughout the week.
