LANSING (WKZO) -- Retiring Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway has been charged with bank fraud after months of speculation, several separate investigations and allegations of a shady land deal designed to get the judge out of a mortgage she claimed she couldn’t afford.
She allegedly signed other property she owned over to her children, to hide those assets from the bank, and then completed a short sale that saved her 600-thousand dollars in mortgage payments.Then her children signed the other property back over to her.
She has already retired from the State’s highest court, and faces possible sanctions through the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission. Her last day on the job is Monday.
She is expected to cop a plea with federal prosecutors on the Bank Fraud Charge.
