Yeah Yeah Yeahs recently announced that they’ll be dropping their fourth studio album, Mosquito , on April 16. Frontwoman Karen O says that while she experienced some difficulty adjusting to living in New York after spending a few years in Los Angeles, guitarist Nick Zinner also went through some tough times while recording the upcoming release.
"Emotionally, it's been a roller coaster,” O tells Pitchfork . “It's been very emotionally intense for Nick, too. He was going through a break-up while we were making the album. It was just all kind of down .”
The singer adds that making Mosquito was very therapeutic for the band. “The music is more of a prescription for what we were feeling,” she explains. “There's a real tone, character, and style to it. And it's probably some of the most tongue-in-cheek stuff that we've done in a while.”
