LANSING (WKZO) -- Governor Snyder signed 30 more bills into law yesterday, among them was Erin’s Law. It will allow schools to implement a curriculum to teach students about child abuse, and to train staff how to recognize the warning signs and how to provide counseling.
It’s named in honor of Sex Abuse Survivor Erin Merryn who has lobbied for such legislation in several states.
Governor Snyder also signed a bill that creates the Swift and Sure Sanctions program. It authorizes periodic drug and alcohol screens for parolees and probationers, keeping a closer watch on them.
It's already been enacted in some other states where they boast a 50% savings in costs and fewer crimes.
It focuses on those probationers who are most at risk of repeat offending.
