DETROIT (WKZO) -- Jury deliberations began Tuesday in the federal corruption case of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, his father Bernard Kilpatrick and contractor Bobby Ferguson. The three were indicted on 33 counts including racketeering, extortion, bribery and tax fraud.
During the five-month trial, in which over 80 witnesses testified, two defense lawyers were taken to the hospital and Kwame Kilpatrick was sent to jail for a weekend for violating his parole. A fourth co-defendant, former water department director Victor Mercado pleaded guilty to charges in the case in November.
