DETROIT (WKZO) -- The Bloomfield Hills-based largest home builder in the U.S. is helping Detroit demolish unwanted vacant structures.

Bill Pulte, who is the grandson of PulteGroup founder William Pulte, is leading a Detroit Blight Authority that has already taken down most of a ten-block area near Eastern Market.  Pulte says he wanted to get involved after reading the story of a girl scared about her daily walk to school.

The newly formed agency is concentrating on raising funds and will be able to remove blighted buildings at half the cost of the city alone.
